RFID Sim Cards

RFID - Sim Cards

The new technology called RFID (radio frequency identification) has taken over the entertainment and public transportation system as well as the postal service by storm. Even sim cards are now being made with RFID technology so that large amounts of data can be stored and saved. This form of contact less card could also be used for more than one thing. It may be the storage facility for your mobile phone, which allows it to function, but the new sim cards can also hold data for your public transportation. It is said that the new technology will be able to use cell phones as tickets for regular public transportation users. It could also be used as a gym membership card or a season ticket at a football game.

For the sim card tickets, there are many RFID readers that have already been installed at certain stations. All you have to do when you want to pre-book is to move your cell phone over the reader and it will give you a digital ticket. If you do not have any money, this system will allow you to purchase the ticket with airtime from your cell phone. Instead of receiving an actual ticket, which you may end up losing anyway, you now have the state of the art sim card RFID technology and you will simply swipe your cell phone or card again to show that you have indeed purchased a ticket.

At the moment there is a trail to see if this newly integrated technology will work, or if it will be too complicated for the users and integrated companies that are involved. The new sim card is called Proximera and has been designed with the full transit ticket application. One of the difficulties will be to enable the ticketing application of the sim card when the phone is off or the battery is flat.
