The Dark Crystal - The Dark Crystal from the year 1982 is a fantasy film from the puppeteers and inventors of the Muppets, Jim Henson and Frank Oz. It is the first live action film in which only puppets are seen in the story. Jim Henson and Frank Oz managed the direction as well as some of the puppets and even did the voice-overs for a few roles too. The artist Brian Froud was responsible for the whole artistic organisation of the film and drew the film poster as well as the album sleeve. Jim Henson worked on this fantasy film for over five years in all. The smaller puppets were partially worked by hand. However, actors were brought in too, who were in the bigger puppet constructions. The puppets were the forerunners of the characters later presented in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" or in the character of "Yoda" in "Star Wars". The Dark Crystal won the following awards: 1983: the Grand Prize at the Avoriaz Fantastic Film Festival for Jim Henson and Frank Oz 1983: Saturn Award for Best Fantasy Film.
