Robin Hood is a 2010 historical film by the director Ridley Scott. The production premiered at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival on 12th May, 2010. A day later the film began to be shown in German-language cinemas. The film tells the fictitious story prior to the original Robin Hood legend with real historical people and facts from the 12th Century being included in the plot as well. The film’s screenplay was done exclusively in northern England, in the county of Northumberland, between April and August, 2009 with a budget of approximately 130 million U.S. dollars. One of the sets for the screenplay was Alnwick Castle and the beach near Bamburgh, where one of the action scenes in the film was produced. Sherwood Forest was reconstructed in the Kielder Forest, in a small wood in which director Scott and principal actor Crowe had already shot scenes from the film "Gladiator" in 2000. One of the most important sets, Nottingham Village, was constructed on a private estate close to Guilford in Surrey. Originally, Sienna Miller had been signed up for the role of Marion but Ridley replaced her with Kate Blanchett shortly before shooting began because Ridley Scott was somewhat concerned about Sienna Miller’s image.
