Thumbelina is a US cartoon from the year 1994, directed by Don Bluth. The original was the fairy-tale "Thumbelina" by the famous author Hans Christian Andersen. The interpretation of the film is very much influenced by the original fairy-tale even if a few changes have been made. The story is told by Jacquimo, a swallow, who is mad on tricky romances. It starts with a good fairy, who gives a barleycorn to a woman. The barleycorn finally turns into a very beautiful flower out of which a tiny girl slips and fulfils the woman’s longing for a child.
