Tarzan is a 1999 Walt Disney Studios cartoon. It is based on the 1912 novel "Tarzan of the Apes" by Edgar Rice Burroughs and, so far, is the only animated version of material about “the lord of the jungle”. Commercially, this film was a giant success and brought in more than USD 171 million in the United States and was seen by more than 5.6 million cinema-goers in Germany. The free television premier could be seen unabridged on the Sat 1 station on 30th January, 2010. In 2001, the spin-off from the series, “The Legend of Tarzan”, was developed for the Disney television station Toon. This was followed by the film sequel “Tarzan and Jane” as well as “Tarzan 2” which describes Tarzan’s childhood.. A Broadway adaptation as a musical was produced in 2007 and played on Broadway until July, 2007. On 19th October 2008 the "Tarzan" musical premiered in Hamburg with the Swede Anton Zetterholm playing Tarzan and Elisabeth Hübert from Lübeck as Jane.
